- Device Identifier: A unique, randomly generated device ID used to associate your account with your device. This is not your Apple advertising identifier.
- Usage Data: App interaction data such as streak activity, challenge completion, and feature usage to improve the experience.
- Subscription Status: Information about your subscription plan, managed through Apple's App Store.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your real name, email address, phone number, or physical address unless you voluntarily provide it via support channels.

- We do not collect contacts or phone book data.
- We do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).

4.1 Local-First Architecture
Spark is designed with a local-first approach. The majority of your data, including your conversation history, saved responses, streak data, and challenge history, is stored locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly required for AI processing.
4.2 Cloud Data
Minimal data is transmitted to our secure servers (hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States) for the following purposes:
- AI Chat Processing: When you send a message, the message content and limited recent context (up to 10 prior messages) are sent to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI's API for response generation. Messages are not stored on our servers after processing.
- User Account: Basic profile information and device ID are stored server-side for account management.
- Challenge Generation: Your relationship status and preferences (not conversation content) are sent to generate personalized daily challenges.
4.3 Security Measures
We implement appropriate technical and organizational safeguards, including:
- API key authentication and device-specific headers for all network requests.
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit.
- Rate limiting and throttling on API endpoints.
- Minimal data collection and local-first storage approach.
5. Third-Party Services
Spark integrates with the following third-party services:
- OpenAI: Powers our AI conversation features. Message content is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. OpenAI's use of data is governed by their privacy policy. We use the API with data retention disabled where available.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Hosts our backend infrastructure, including API Gateway, Lambda functions, and DynamoDB. Data is processed in the US East (N. Virginia) region.
- Superwall: Manages our subscription paywall experience. Superwall may collect anonymous analytics data related to paywall interactions.
- Apple (App Store / StoreKit): Processes all payments and subscription management. We do not have access to your payment details.
6. AI Conversations and Chat Data
Your privacy in conversations with Spark is important to us:
- Conversation history is stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- Conversation memory (a summarized, anonymized extract of key topics) is stored locally to improve advice quality.
- When you send a message, only the current message and limited recent context are transmitted for AI processing. This data is not persistently stored on our servers.
- We do not read, review, or monitor your individual conversations.
- AI responses are generated in real-time and are not pre-written by humans.
- Spark is not a therapist and does not provide mental health services. Conversations are not subject to HIPAA or similar medical privacy regulations.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access Your Data: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete Your Data: Request deletion of your account and associated data. Since most data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app will remove the majority of your data. To delete server-side data, contact us.
